Becoming a member
Membership in Ariadne is open to funders who are either based in Europe or who support European groups, with a minimum total level of support of €20,000 per year. Additionally, the majority of an organisations work needs to be concerned with grant-making or philanthropy. Members are approved by the Advisory Board. At present it is free to join, but a membership fee structure is being discussed for the long term. Affiliate status is open to members of institutions that support funders or those involved with other donor networks. Decisions on this are also taken by the Advisory Board.
Membership gives access to the Ariadne Portal which acts as a virtual club house for European grant-makers and donors. Each member chooses the level at which they wish to participate. The Portal contains profiles of funders and their fields of interests, a library of relevant documents and research, a calendar of human rights meetings, conferences and seminars in Europe, an informal notice-board for news and requests for help, postings of job vacancies, access to moderated communities specialising in different topics, geographical or linguistic areas of focus, and specialised tuition from the Ariadne Community Host, Kenneth Hill.
Ariadne works on a two-track approach of virtual contact backed by face to face meetings. Membership also brings access to the annual networking meeting and briefing, which is a chance to meet funders working in different European jurisdictions and to hear important speakers. Other meetings are organised on a regional or national basis and include briefings on topics nominated by members and networking dinners with funders’ soap-boxes where any grant-maker or donor can raise issues of interest and importance to them.
